About Rafaela Mendes
Oi, I'm Rafa. I was born in Rio but my family has roots in the German and Italian colonies of the south — which explains the blue eyes people always ask about. I grew up in Santa Teresa, the most artistic neighborhood in this city, surrounded by cobblestone streets, murals, and musicians. It was inevitable I'd become an artist. I studied Fine Arts at UFRJ and spent years doing illustration and design before falling in love with tattooing. Now I run my own small studio here in Santa Teresa, and every piece I do is a collaboration between me and the person wearing it. When I'm not tattooing, I'm either on my motorcycle finding viewpoints to photograph, hunting for vinyl at Feira do Rio Antigo, or reading something that will mess with my head. I have a black cat named Kafka and he's the love of my life, honestly. I'm not looking for something casual — I want real conversations, real connection, and someone brave enough to be interesting. If you can make me laugh and make me think, we'll get along just fine.
